Feng Chia University's First NSTC "Outstanding Distinguished Research Fellow" Award! Leader in Smart Manufacturing, Chair Professor Jyh-Horng Chou

The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) recently announced the list of "Outstanding Distinguished Research Fellows" for 2024, and Feng Chia University Chair Professor and Honorary Vice-President Jyh-Horng Chou was honored with this award. He is the first scholar from Feng Chia University to receive this accolade, adding glory to the university and highlighting his outstanding contributions to Taiwan's academic community.

The NSTC "Outstanding Distinguished Research Fellow" award aims to recognize scholars who have made outstanding contributions to Taiwan's academic and industrial development. The award has very high thresholds; applicants must have won the "Outstanding Research Award" twice and have completed at least two years since the second award. Additionally, they must have accumulated over six years of executing distinguished research projects, outstanding scholar research projects, or major projects designated by the NSTC to qualify.

Professor Jyh-Horng Chou received the "Outstanding Research Award" in 2011 and 2014, achieving the highest number of times this award can be granted. Subsequently, he led NSTC distinguished research projects as a distinguished research fellow for six years, ultimately standing out and winning the "Outstanding Distinguished Research Fellow" award. He is the first scholar from Feng Chia University to receive this honor, showcasing his profound academic foundation and outstanding achievements from years of dedication.

Feng Chia University Chair Professor and Honorary Vice-President Jyh-Horng Chou was honored with the NSTC 2024 Outstanding Distinguished Research Fellow award.

Professor Chou has long focused on the research and development of Robust Intelligent/Smart Optimization technology and actively applied it to the industry, contributing to the advancement of Taiwan's smart manufacturing technology. In 2014, he received the highest rank winner from the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (IEEE CIS). From 2014 to 2018, IEEE CIS opened a special column "Industry News and Success Stories" on its official website, specifically reporting the innovative performance and technological breakthroughs of the research team led by him in Taiwan's industry. This made his team the first and only academic team globally to be featured in a special column on the IEEE CIS website, demonstrating exceptional international influence.

Additionally, Professor Chou has a rich academic background, having served as the convener of the Automation Division of the NSTC Engineering Department and held chair professor and administrative positions at several top universities. His academic achievements have been widely recognized, having received the NSTC Outstanding Research Award, the TECO Award, the Ministry of Science and Technology Future Technology Award, and many other honors. He was also listed among the World's Top 2% Scientists in the global lifetime scientific impact rankings published by Stanford University through Scopus from 2020 to 2024.

Professor Chou has long focused on the research and development of Robust Intelligent/Smart Optimization, contributing to the advancement of Taiwan's smart manufacturing technology.
