Feng Chia University's "Birthday Hall" Embodies the Spirit of New Beginnings! First "Birthday Lecture" by AI Expert Professor Wei-Ying Ma

On February 16, Feng Chia University held the inauguration ceremony of "Virtuosi Hall", with events taking place at the Great Square and "Birthday Hall", symbolizing the official opening of this new academic landmark. Chairman Cheng-Shu Kao personally shared the origin of the "Birthday Hall" name, while President Vey Wang awarded the first "Birthday Lecture" to Tsinghua University in Beijing Chair Professor Wei-Ying Ma.

The naming of Birthday Hall is particularly meaningful, derived from the names of the parents of a Feng Chia University board member who made significant contributions to the university and Virtuosi Hall. It not only carries the family's commitment to education but also symbolizes the spirit of "new beginnings" in learning and growth, providing a space for interdisciplinary exchange and learning for faculty and students. In the future, Birthday Hall will host large academic lectures, classic general education courses, art performances, and more, expanding students' technological and humanistic horizons.

The first Feng Chia University "Birthday Lecture" was given by Professor Wei-Ying Ma, currently the Chief Scientist at the Institute for AI Industry Research (AIR) at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He has previously served as Vice President of Microsoft Research Asia and Vice President of ByteDance, and has long been dedicated to the field of artificial intelligence (AI), earning international acclaim. Professor Ma was invited to Feng Chia last November 21 to share "AI for Science", attracting many faculty and students and fostering lively discussions. This lecture not only deepened the understanding of AI technology among faculty and students but also sparked greater interest in AI applications in the scientific field, establishing a solid foundation for academic collaboration between Professor Ma and Feng Chia University.

At the "Birthday Lecture" award ceremony, Professor Wei-Ying Ma expressed his gratitude to Feng Chia University, describing his impressions of participating in the Virtuosi Hall inauguration with four "Amazings"—Amazing Building, Amazing Leadership, Amazing Family, Amazing People. He stated, "It is an honor and a privilege to be the first Birthday Lecture. Feng Chia University is a vibrant and visionary institution, and I look forward to continued exchanges with the faculty and students here."

Notably, Professor Ma will donate all the income from his lectures as scholarships for Feng Chia University students, supporting their studies in the field of artificial intelligence and participation in AI talent training programs at Tsinghua University in Beijing, creating more opportunities for international academic exchange. This initiative undoubtedly adds more educational value to the inauguration of Virtuosi Hall and demonstrates Feng Chia University's active role in cultivating talents in technology and humanities.
