2024.11.22

Feng Chia University has fully implemented Microsoft 365 Copilot to achieve its vision of an intelligent AI campus. By introducing AI technology and generative tools into lesson preparation, teaching interactions, and administrative work, the university has not only shortened lesson preparation time, increased student motivation, and enhanced interactions with students, but also significantly improved administrative efficiency, creating a highly efficient and intelligent learning environment.

Feng Chia University has long embraced and integrated information technology into its DNA. By implementing Microsoft 365 Copilot, the university has realized intelligent applications in both teaching and administration across various fields. In teaching, Copilot helps teachers quickly generate lesson plans, new course outlines, compile various materials into course content, translate papers from Chinese to English, compare student paper versions, design interactive courses, and provide real-time feedback to students, thereby improving teaching quality and student engagement. Students can use Copilot for creative brainstorming, problem-solving, and self-assessment, enhancing learning outcomes. In administrative applications, Copilot significantly improves work efficiency, whether in writing press releases, translating websites, organizing data, or generating reports, demonstrating great convenience and accuracy.

"Feng Chia University aims to become a fully intelligent AI campus, encompassing the comprehensive intelligence of teaching, research, and administrative work. Microsoft 365 Copilot is a crucial milestone in building an intelligent AI campus," said Dr. Eric Kuo-Hao Tang, Vice-President of Feng Chia University. "The introduction of Copilot not only enhances the quality and efficiency of teaching but also demonstrates excellent efficiency in administrative work. The widespread application of generative AI tools can bring multiple advantages, including the development of customized learning models and the assistance of intelligent teaching assistants, providing greater flexibility for teachers to design teaching content and offering a more efficient and intelligent learning and working environment for students and administrative staff."

"Microsoft 365 Copilot is fully integrated with Office, making it the most user-friendly generative AI tool for teachers and students. Copilot has high security, ensuring that all users' data and privacy are fully protected, allowing teachers and students to widely apply this technology in teaching and learning with confidence," said Shou-Cheng Chen, General Manager of the Public Sector Business Group, Microsoft Taiwan. "Feng Chia University's successful experience in implementing Microsoft 365 Copilot can serve as a model for other schools. Microsoft will continue to cooperate with Feng Chia University to cultivate more talents with innovative thinking and problem-solving abilities through innovative technology, contributing to Taiwan's technological development and international competitiveness."

Copilot assists non-IT courses in achieving three major teaching goals: creative brainstorming, critical thinking, and problem-solving

In non-IT fields, Microsoft 365 Copilot also helps improve teaching quality and efficiency. Professor Chih-Yi Tseng from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Feng Chia University uses the creative design course as an example to demonstrate Copilot's powerful functions in generating images, text, and AI digital content creation. Students use Copilot to obtain initial creative results, then combine their professional knowledge to enhance them, improving the efficiency and quality of their ideas. Professor Chih-Yi Tseng stated, "Copilot's generative AI can assist students in creative brainstorming, critically evaluating AI results against their own ideas and making adjustments, and applying problem-solving, helping students understand how to co-create with AI, achieving three major teaching goals."

Additionally, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences has planned multiple AI digital interdisciplinary courses, such as "Humanities and Technology: Generative AI Interdisciplinary Applications," "Prompt Engineering and AI Digital Creation," and "Human-Centered Design and AI Innovative Applications." These courses cultivate students' new forms of creative thinking and the ability to use AI to solve problems. Copilot provides important technical support in these courses, helping students advance from basic knowledge to innovative AI digital applications, significantly enhancing learning outcomes both inside and outside the classroom. Through the integration of AI digital and humanities and social issues, students are well-prepared for future interdisciplinary competencies and employment.

Copilot brings three major changes to IT course teaching: enhancing learning motivation, differentiated teaching, and focusing on student interaction

Professor Ming-Chi Liu from the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science at the College of Information and Electrical Engineering at Feng Chia University utilizes Microsoft 365 Copilot in course preparation to improve teaching material production efficiency. In the past, generating related images took the most time during material preparation. With the introduction of Microsoft 365 Copilot, images related to teaching materials can be quickly generated, saving a lot of time. Additionally, in introductory courses, where new technical fields often need to be introduced, Microsoft 365 Copilot can help select key terms for generating core technologies, allowing teachers to more effectively supplement important concepts and integrate them into the course.

During the teaching process, Professor Ming-Chi Liu combines Copilot with other Microsoft 365 applications to enhance teaching quality. For example, using Microsoft Teams to record the class process, students can review through Teams if they do not fully understand during the class. Copilot in Teams can also help students identify key points in the videos and recommend additional learning resources. Students can also ask Copilot in Excel how to write formulas, allowing them to focus more on mastering core technologies during the learning process.

In teaching guidance, Microsoft 365 Copilot transforms the teacher's role from traditional lecturing to coaching. Copilot in Excel can automatically check if students have uploaded practice content according to the schedule through program commands; Copilot in PowerPoint can assist in verifying scoring criteria through commands when students prepare for competitions, ensuring that student proposals meet competition requirements. When students write resumes, Copilot in Word can also provide guidance, helping them describe their experiences more concretely. Overall, Microsoft 365 Copilot assists teachers in more effectively guiding students, improving their learning outcomes and competition performance.

Professor Ming-Chi Liu stated, "Using Copilot has brought three changes to teaching methods: first, students' learning motivation has increased because they understand the practical applications of the teaching content. Second, differentiated teaching can be conducted, designing different learning experiences for students of different levels. Finally, teachers can focus on interacting with students, leaving tedious tasks to Copilot, thereby improving teaching efficiency and quality."

資訊電機學院資訊工程學系副教授劉明機老師分享使用Copilot後對教學方式帶來學生的學習動機提升、能夠進行差異化教學、及可以集中精力在與學生的互動上三點改變,進而提升教學效率和品質。

Copilot not only improves administrative work efficiency but also ensures more accurate translation of Feng Chia University's proprietary terms

Microsoft 365 Copilot not only significantly improves work efficiency but also ensures the accuracy and smoothness of various tasks. "Copilot demonstrates high efficiency and convenience in writing press releases, translating websites, writing project proposals, creating questionnaire forms, and general administrative affairs," said Mei-Hui Wu, Head of Public Relations, Office of the Secretariat at Feng Chia University. "I use Copilot almost every day to write and optimize press releases, greatly improving writing efficiency. Additionally, Copilot, combined with Feng Chia University's proprietary term glossary, can instruct Copilot to translate according to these terms when translating websites or news, ensuring translation accuracy and avoiding errors."

Administrative staff also use Copilot in PowerPoint to generate presentations, Copilot in Forms to automatically create questionnaire forms, and Copilot in Word to write project proposals. The application of Microsoft 365 Copilot not only improves administrative work efficiency but also reduces tedious manual operations, making work processes smoother.
